Future‑Self Fear Walkthrough: Fear vs Truth Clarifier

Updated: Jan 14

When you are about to make a brave move—leave a job, start a project, tell the truth—your mind often jumps straight to disaster. This walkthrough helps you follow the fear all the way down, meet your future self there, and discover that you are far more resourced and resilient than your panic suggests.

Steps:

  1. Name the fear. Write one clear sentence that starts with “I’m afraid that…”.

  2. Ask “And then what?” three times. After your first fear sentence, ask yourself: “And then what?” and write the next feared outcome. Repeat this question at least three times so you see the worst‑case story your mind is telling.

  3. For each “then,” ask: “How would I cope? Who could help?” Under every feared outcome, list at least one way you would cope (practical actions, inner resources) and one person, resource, or support you could lean on.

  4. Separate fear voice from truth voice. Next to each fear line, write: “What I actually know is…” and add one grounded fact or truth (for example: evidence from your past, skills you have, people who love you).

  5. Choose your next step from truth, not fear. Looking at everything you wrote, finish this sentence: “Given what I now see, the next small step I’m willing to take is…” and do only that step.

You can use this walkthrough any time fear tells you that one decision will ruin everything. Walking the fear all the way through—and then meeting it with coping plans and truth—teaches your nervous system that you are not helpless, you are prepared.
